H.C. Starck Tantalum and Niobium receives the “2019 Metal Additive Manufacturing Outstanding Technical Paper Award” by Metal Powder Industries Federation

The H.C. Stack Tantalum and Niobium GmbH successfully participated for the first time at the AMPM Conference in the US (Phoenix) from June 23 to June 26. Co-located with the Powdermet conference the AMPM conference is an important event for the metal additive manufacturing industry as it features international industry experts presenting their latest results in Research and Development which are about to contribute to the further growth of this dynamic field. In total over 200 presentations from worldwide representatives were given on powder metallurgy, materials and metal additive manufacturing. Besides the technical presentations, companies showcased their products at over 100 booths.

Approx. 80 presentations were presented during the AMPM Technical Session with specific focus on Additive Manufacturing topics. Among those presentations and the related technical papers that have been submitted by the speakers, the paper and presentation of H.C. Stack Tantalum and Niobium team on “Tantalum (Ta) and Niobium (Nb) containing Alloy Powders for Application in Additive Manufacturing” was selected by the Jury of the Metal Powder Industries Federation as the winning paper.

“We are very pleased that our paper has been selected by the Jury. This allows us to make more industries and scientists aware of our special Tantalum and Niobium containing AM powders, which migrate innovative intrinsic material properties into the AM technology”, states Ilka Kaczmarek, Innovation Manager and speaker at the conference.

The award-winning paper presents results of the H.C. Starck Tantalum and Niobium GmbH in the field of metal powder development for Additive Manufacturing. It shows that, thanks to their special intrinsic material properties, Ta and Nb as well as new Ta and Nb containing pre-alloyed powders can serve special fields of application such as chemical processing, superconductors, energy, or high temperature environments, or can create new and promising solutions for the optimization of medical implant materials.
