The project’s objective was to develop sustainable, energy-efficient processes throughout the HV battery value chain, ultimately creating a closed battery materials loop. This has now been achieved.

TANIOBIS' new research and production plant for chlorides at the Goslar site enables the development of new high-performance materials for the electronics and energy industries. The company is expanding its product range and responding to growing market interest in high-purity chlorides. At the same time, the facility in Laufenburg is being modernized in order to continue producing the volume and materials demanded by the market.
TANIOBIS GmbH collaborates with Volkswagen-led research team to advance battery-recycling technology
TANIOBIS GmbH and Partners from the industrial and scientific communities want to jointly prove that the most valuable components of traction batteries can be recovered and reused several times in succession through recycling. The "HVBatCycle" research consortium aims to keep cathode metals, electrolyte and graphite permanently in a closed material cycle. Under the leadership of the Volkswagen Group, TANIOBIS GmbH, J. Schmalz GmbH, Viscom AG have been working together with researchers from RWTH Aachen University, TU Braunschweig and the Fraunhofer Institute for Surface Engineering and Thin Films for three years to research and develop the necessary processes. The project is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action.

Augmentation of Functional Tantalum Powder Production Capacity at TANIOBIS Plant in Thailand
TANIOBIS GmbH (CEO: Iida Kazuhiko; “TANIOBIS”) an affiliate of JX Nippon Mining & Metals Corporation (President: Murayama Seiichi) will invest a total of €28 million to augment facilities for the manufacture of functional tantalum powder (“the Product”) at its Map Ta Phut plant in Thailand and significantly increase its production capacity for the Product. Following planning, construction, and initial start-up, the facilities are scheduled to progressively start operating at around 2025.

Goslar, October 22, 2019. H.C. Starck Tantalum and Niobium GmbH will be launching a new range of atomised tantalum and niobium (Ta/Nb) powders and their alloys under the brand name AMtrinsic®. The products will be available by the November 1st, 2019. AMtrinsic® powders are designed specifically for metal additive manufacturing (AM) processes.

The H.C. Stack Tantalum and Niobium GmbH successfully participated for the first time at the AMPM Conference in the US (Phoenix) from June 23 to June 26. Co-located with the Powdermet conference the AMPM conference is an important event for the metal additive manufacturing industry as it features international industry experts presenting their latest results in Research and Development which are about to contribute to the further growth of this dynamic field. In total over 200 presentations from worldwide representatives were given on powder metallurgy, materials and metal additive manufacturing. Besides the technical presentations, companies showcased their products at over 100 booths.

The audit included the subsidiary H.C. Starck Tantalum and Niobium GmbH and the associated company H.C. Starck Smelting GmbH & Co. KG. This means all subsidiaries that process tantalum at the Goslar, Mito, Tokyo, Map Ta Phut, and Laufenburg locations remain certified. The audit was performed by the independent company SGS, acting on behalf of the Responsible Business Alliance (RBA formerly Electronics Industry Citizenship Coalition EICC) and the Responsible Minerals Assurance Process (RMAP formerly Conflict-Free Smelter Program) as part of the Responsible Minerals Initiative (RMI, formerly CFSI).
